Sometimes setting a goal can be difficult, I know I feel pulled in a lot of different directions and life is busy which makes it easy to avoid something that feels overwhelming!
Our prior blog focused on the SMART Method for Achieving Financial Goals:
- Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time based
Now let’s focus on setting a goal!
First write down some specific goals, for example establish an emergency fund, pay off a credit card or student loan focus on highest interest rates first, and retirement savings. Writing your goals down increases accountability which increases potential for success. I find the buddy system is also a great tool for accountability! Everyone can use a cheerleader!
Next prioritize the goals in order of importance, with an eye towards your circumstances and resources available.
Further categorize by timeframe:
- Short-term goals under one year
- Mid-term goals 1-5 years
- Long-term goals 5 plus years
Pick the highest priority, or most achievable, just pick something and get started!
